The goal of Canton Elementary behavior management plan is to create a safe environment characterized by mutual respect and order that is conducive for learning. The plan is a school-wide plan with proper procedures and behavior for hallways, restrooms, playground, cafeteria, and the buses that will be taught at the beginning of the school year. This plan consists of positive reinforcement that encourages appropriate behavior and immediate discipline applicable for the inappropriate behavior. Simply put, this means that for every inappropriate or appropriate action a student chooses to take in a given situation, there is an equal and appropriate consequence.
Positive Reinforcement: Students exhibiting appropriate in and out of the classroom will earn Tiger Tickets. Tiger tickets can be redeemed each Friday for prizes at the ROAR Store.
Assertive Discipline: Assertive discipline targets inappropriate behavior in a discrete and effective manner which gives the student opportunities to think about and change the behavior through immediate and appropriate consequences. Below are several examples of possible consequences . If needed, a daily behavior chart will be kept in students' binders on the back of their weekly planners . Please be sure to check your child’s planner each evening.
No Marks: Great day
1: Warning--Correct inappropriate behavior (pick up, clean up, apologize)
3: Time out (Removal from activity and minor referral.
4: 10 minutes loss of recess OR (depending upon infraction)
5. Lunch Detention and note sent home for parent signature OR (depending upon infraction)
6: Office referral
*Major inappropriate behaviors such as violence, threats, arguing with the teacher, stealing, lying, or temper tantrums will result in an automatic trip to the Principal’s office.
